I'm afraid it's going to be a long winter

i live in upstate ny and i have seen the geese and blackbirds flocking up already.. and the goldenrod is blooming.. i think early winter too. i have a few hummingbirds left. but not the quantity i had earlier.. think they have already started going south..the poision ivy vines around the trees are already red.. not a good sign..

I now think winter is just gonna be truly screwy.
I saw a totally BROWN wooly bear yesterday afternoon, no black at all. I've seen all black ones before but I've never in my life seen one totally brown.

As long as that means one big snowfall for me, YAY!!!! I love playing in the snow!

I tried to get a pic of all the hummingbirds at the feeder this morning, but couldn't. There were too many to count. They know something we don't.

i live in NE oklahoma for the past 3 mornings its been 49-51.
WAY to early here for temps like that!!! I have a feelin its gonna be a rough one!!

You're right-cold winter. We in Illinois had the coldest JULY on record. I wore a SWEATER to work yesterday--used to live near Chicago where, in the Great Lakes stores used to sell "summer sweaters." NEVER in the center of the state have I thrown on extra layers in the summer!
Please start stocking up, if you live where it snows. I've been blessed because I got all of my hay in the barn to last until next Spring. Start stocking up on your animal feed. Buy some more metal storage containers (trash cans work great.)

Expect tax hikes to exascerbate any weather related shortages. BTW, we just had a "sin-tax" hike in our state for liquor and candy (mostly because IL is run by idiots who cannot balance a checkbook and have run out of money.) You might want to do as I am--stock up on non-perishable staples. I am in the process of collecting one year's worth of t.p., shampoo/conditioner, soap, toothpaste, laundry detergent/fabric softerner, q-tips--those things we need to buy all of the time, but, if they are stored correctly will last for YEARS. (I chase the sales.)

Better to stock up now than scramble later -- UNLESS you're talking about eggs...
