I joined BYC back in 2013 and it was a wealth of information. I recently decided to get a rooster. He is said to be 8 months old isn't aggressive toward me, and was doing fantastic with the hens. Until now. It seems he is favoring my one and only easter egger and tonight she came into the coop looking quite ragged. Like the feathers were barely hanging on under her wings. I am assuming the rooster got a little too rough with her so I guess I need to get one of those things to protect her. Does anyone have a prefered maker or is there something else I should do to ease his behavior. Also her back seemed untouched, it was more her sides that looked rough. Hopefully someone can help me with this because I really don't know where I should post this.

Hello and welcome back to BYC! :frow Nice to meet you.

Not really. He's just a young cockerel. It's more that he's sloppy and inexperienced than he is aggressive. I would pen him away from her to give her a break for a while. You can also trim his nails to make sure they're blunt. And what you're looking for is called a hen saddle. I purchased some on Etsy. My hens hated them. One of them actually managed to get it off.
