I found these two eggs today in the play pen, one in the morning, and one a couple hours ago. There's no way I could've not seen it in the morning because it's not a huge pen and the grass is short.
I have a barred rock and Easter egger and I was wondering could my barred rock lay both in one day.? This is second day laying eggs so is that possible.?
Or.!

I've noticed one is a little lighter, I don't know if you can tell in the picture, but could it be my Easter egger layed the lighter egg.?
I'm confused :( sorry for the long story.!

Chickens can do odd things, especially when they just start laying. At one point we had something like 10 hens and were getting 12 eggs a day! If they are getting too much lighting, or when their systems are just figuring things out, they can lay two eggs in a day. EEs usually lay colored eggs, as this is what they are bred for, however, it is possible that the EE did lay that egg.

I hope this helps. Feel free to ask any questions you may have. Best of luck!

So it can be my barred rock laying both eggs. Okay :)
If my EE layed this egg, does that mean she won't lay blue/green eggs.?

Hens can lay slightly different colored and shaped eggs at different times, but I would think that if your EE were the one laying the other brown one, she will continue to do so.

Have you had EEs before.? Do they have an average time they start laying eggs.? Mine will be 20 weeks on Thursday.

I had 3 Easter eggers and each laid different color eggs. one was green, next was blueish green, and the last was exactly the color of your lighter egg. ... If the eggs are of different color, then they came from different chickens. The tone of eggs from a chicken can vary slightly from one egg to the next, but not much. Another thing to consider is that a chicken takes about 25 hours to produce an egg. I know there are some exceptions when the time can be a little shorter than 25 hours, and of course longer especially when darkness approaches and chicken waits until morning.
WISHING YOU BEST

Might help if you could find a way to divide them until the eggs are laid in the morning and see what happens. not separate just like a garden net in the play pen to know who is on what side.

She looks EE to me but I am not that familiar with the breed you could post a pic on the EE forum and see what ppl think there if she is EE.

I'll divide them and see

or I'll spend the day outside with them. I'm sad I don't get blue eggs.! But her "pink" eggs are nice too. :) I'll post a picture on an EE thread or make a new one calling all EE mommas.!
