I haven't had a flock for 35 years, and in hot, dry Texas, not the tropics. I have a 90sf new coop, and 14 mixed birds in 2 groups, 8 4-month old and 6 4-week old. They are free range in my large tropical garden during the day. I keep them safely locked away from chicken thieves at night. Yes, it happens here. All of them are hand-raised pets who I hope will lay some eggs too. My 2 roosters are in the older group. I plan to add a 100sf covered run for the rainy season.
So far, I've dealt with a neurological balance problem caused by coffee crop spraying next door. Now I have a respiratory issue with one young chick, and will start fumigating the coop with Virkon tomorrow (4 days) on the advice of my vet. I want to prevent all the illnesses I can with good advice from whoever out there is also in a tropical environment, if possible. I clean out feces daily, keep 2 clean waterers and 3 feeders so that all get what they need without competition. Maybe I need to wash my roosts more- usually I just scrape off any feces from the natural branches I use for roosts. I will talk to the vet about what wormers are used here.
Anyway, I'm glad I found this group and look forward to getting to know some of you!

Welcome!!! I would post issues in the ER forum. Members like Wyorp Rock, Eggcessive, azygous, are the most knowledgable on emergencies:
