I'm like you...well probably alot of you;)...I like my broody hens! I get all excited for them! Well, I've had my girls from day old chicks so them wanting to become a Mama is just so awesome to me! I get the biggest blessing out of watching them hatch their babies and then take such good care of them! However, I have bee finding REALLY GREAT people that will give the chicks GREAT homes! It's VERY rewarding for me when people call me or email me all excited about getting new baby chicks! I LOVE the joy that it brings to others!

Plus...like someone else said...I allowed my girls the opportunity to experience Motherhood and do what came natural!

But these babies are going to GROW FAST!!! And I want to be able to still enjoy my flock and if I keep too many...it does take away from the simplicity and enjoyment of this hobby and it would almost make it a burden to me. That...I DON'T want!

You have to have "goals" and stick with them. For me...I have 4 little boys at home and am a full time stay at home homeschool Mama..I also babysit for friends a few times a week. So for me...my goals are to have a nice diverse free range floclk of girls and one Roo. I want to have a very colorful egg basket in our fridge! I want to have fresh eggs year round....thus...I "need" to hatch out a few babies every year or two to keep my egg supply up. I also have a few breeder pens for my "special projects"...my sizzles, seramas, & silkies! This is just fun for me and a challenge...I like selling the fertilized eggs & the baby chicks! Your goals are going to be COMPLETELY different than my goals....but you have to have goals and stick to them...it really does help to keep things under control. Well, for me anyway...b/c if not...I would have chickens coming out my ears!!!

Everyone at some point reaches their saturation point, and I'm sure you will too. Obviously, you can't keep that up or you will be over run with chickens. I'm sure you will know when enough is enough.

I think when I first got all my bird's 6 year's ago I woke up when I had around 100 the first time lol.Good thing I was working when We had all those to feed.I started selling my chick's and duckling's localy then hatching egg's.I sometime's found myself hiding chick's from customer's cause they were different or just so darn cute. One summer I hatched about 150 duckling's alone that didn't even match the chick's I hatched out lol.Luckily they are got home's.I am starting out new again since Dec. and baaaaaa Im in too deep again already lol. It's addicting for sure but I am QUITTING setting egg's after this week.I just set 8 in hatcher( frizzles and a few columbian) have 12 guinea egg's in and a few more columbian's from my one hen that is alying this week.I am planning on trying a few turkey maybe next month or early june once We get this huge brood settled We have now in their area's. It's hard to get rid of them for sure.

When you have three brooders in the house full of chicks, and the next hatch is rocking in the incubator, with no place to go, you know that things have GOT to change. Add to that two runs of chicks outside next to the adult coop, and a feed bill that is out the window, and you will discover the joy of selling chicks. Trust me.
