I'm Exhausted! 😩

Yes, I normally wear gloves and have no problem with blisters but this time I was stubborn. ā€œI don’t need gloves, I’m no wimp! What kind of farmer wears gloves?ā€œ. Yeah, right šŸ™„. Now I know what gloves are for. Did I also forget to mention that I’m not a farmer anywayšŸ¤¦ā€ā™€ļø?

I can relate with killing plants, although it is mostly because of pests. The area we live in is pretty suburban and there is nothing to keep deer and groundhogs at bay. Netting does not deter them, they tear right through it. Will be trying hardware cloth this year, hopefully that does it.
Hehe. One has to be stubborn to be a good farmer, so maybe farming is in your genes. Don't you hate working with wire? Whether hardware cloth, rabbit wire, chicken wire... I always end up scratched and bleeding with no fingerprints left on my fingers. Good thing you are stubborn! My farmer/neighbor puts cayenne pepper around the perimeter of his garden; says it keeps the critters away. I have coons, possums, skunks, cottontails, and I know the first two will climb wire. Are you going to set wooden posts? I have a small kitchen garden with a low fence behind the house. It's only good for a few tomato plants, some lettuce, peppers and a couple of squash plants. The Guinea Hens have been taking dust baths in there since I planted the veggies this past weekend. I lost a couple of squash plants, and I think I know why, now.šŸ˜’

We have raised beds, so we were going to put rebar in the corners and wrap the hardware cloth around it. My dad wanted to make a frame (like a ā€œhoopā€) over the beds using the rebar but we can’t figure out how to bend it. We will have to cover the top somehow because of the deer though, I was thinking about putting a peice of hardware cloth on top and we can pick it up when we need to get into the garden. Not looking forward to cutting all that wire, I will definitely wear gloves this time! I’ve never heard of using cayenne pepper to deter pests, last year we tried Mil Organite (highly processed human waste) because it is supposed to smell like people. We didn’t see that it had any effect on the animals, I think our deer must be desperate (overpopulated and thus starving) because they eat things that deer aren’t supposed to eat (rose bushes with thorns, camelias, holly bushes, dogwoods, etc).

woah, that was a long post!

I saw a post by someone that bought hot peppers at the produce store and dryed/powdered them and used them to deter any pests around the garden or chicken coop. Ghost Peppers were mentioned. I guess it CAN work.
To stop me from sucking my thumb, I remember my dad painting my thumb with some kind of hot pepper liquid when I was a kid. I learned to like it! Lol
Might be the same result if your pests are very hungry animals.

That’s interesting, I will keep that in mind! Would be good to try
