These little chick's are so cute. I'm getting really attached to 1 in particular. It's the smallest one. So I'm taking pics and everyone is really active and squirming and I pick up the little one and it's just sitting in my hands and starts falling asleep. I realize that it's crop is pretty small, not much in it. I put it down and its starts drinking water. A lot of water but I also notice that it's really not eating. Hardly anything. So I had a thought that since it drinks water I could just add water to his chick starter like I did in the beginning. I made up a small dish and as soon as momma saw it, she pecked at it and then excitedly showed them too. Before you know it, the little one is wolfing it down. Success!! Last time I checked on them they were all underneath momma. Guess it's afternoon nap time and maybe that's why it was falling asleep in my hand.

Good job on getting the little one to eat. It is soooo easy to get attached to birds. We love our girls too :)

It's been awhile since I've posted. Been sicker than a dog. Still have 3 chicks and 1 of them is still my favorite and still behind in its growth.
I switched back to straw as I thought they were eating their pine shavings but they aren't, so we put the shavings back in. The little ones feet are still raw and torn up looking. I did iodine and athletes foot creme. Tonight we soaked them and pulled off the bumps of dirt or skin or whatever it was and it was raw underneath.

If they don't heal any further, I'm going to put little flexible fabric bandaid on its feet. We are doing neosporin twice a day. And nothing but super clean fresh pine shavings. It's eating good. Still feeding chick starter mixed with water but it's also eating dry too. It's little crop is still not full at night like the other 2 but it is growing, just slower.

We have been letting them outside the coop for their first time outside. We sit on the grass with them. Daisy, the mommy, snuggles up to my husband and the chicks hang tight to get. It's too cute!

I'll post more later!

One more thing:
Whenever we turn the little one over so we can work on its feet, it's eyes close.

Is that normal?

Thanks!!
