I am now a happy daddy to two Rhode Island Reds, two Red Sexlinks, and two Barred Rocks....there's gonna be a 7th one, just not sure yet what it's gonna be. My daughter wants to pick one out of her own and pay with her own money and name it!!! I'm so very excited.......got a question though, I've lined my brooder with paper towel which I read helps with there footing for the first week or so...should I be worried about them pecking at it and possibly getting a piece of it?

While I am new to chickens myself, I had them on paper towels for the first 4-5 days and never had problems. For the most part they seemed to ignore it. They figure out pretty fast what food is.

I sprinkled some food on the paper towel to get them moving around a bit. When I first put them in the brooder, they all stayed pretty much under the light to warm up. When I left, after an hour of watching them, they were starting to move around a bit and explore! Love my new little ones!

Just one more week 'til mine arrive at the local feed store.
They should be fine on the paper towels.

I heard that helps with their footing instead of letting them walk on the wood shavings that are under the towels...so I'm trying it.....
I'm sure I'll enjoy them...I feel bad that I had to leave them after only an hour of them being in their new home to come back to work...can't wait to get back...I feel a cough coming on...I may have to leave early!!

I just picked my new babies up last night all 25 of them. I don't know who is happier me or my boys.
