Today is day 21 of my very first hatch and while I was home for lunch I could hear some chirping going on inside the incubator!
Why didn't anybody suggest to set up for a Friday hatch?!?!?! I'm going bonkers sitting here at work!!!!

Oh, wow! I don't think I could stand it! Hope you get to see most of it when you get home!

I have some going now that due to hatch on the 14th. It's my 1st time, too! I am starting to get really excited and nervous! So I can relate to some degree. I hope I make as far as you have! I couldn't resist the urge to candle for the first time this morning. It looks like 20-21 are doing well. I'll give it some more time, especially since I don't trust myself. Did you candle yours at all?

I didn't candle mine at all. I have 28 in the incubator and I have no idea how many are going to make it. We made a few mistakes at the beginning with temperature and humidity, etc., so I'm quite surprised I'm hearing some chirping and pecking/scratching going on. Very hopeful for a 30-50% hatch. I mean, nature has it's ways of correcting minor fluctuations during an incubation, right? The driving force of "life" is much too strong!

Good luck with your hatch! What kind of eggs are you hatching? Mine are all mixes because my rooster is a mix. The level of anxiety is amazing, isn't it? People at work just look at me like "they're only chickens..." and I'm dancing around and screaming "you don't understand! They're CHICKENS!"

Is there any news yet on the new arrivals ??
I just finished my first go at the incubator and wasn´t really very successful, out of 5 duck and 4 hen eggs i only had one hen egg that developed but the egg was very small and the chick very big. He sadly died 2 hours after finally making it. The ducks were caught by a really freek power cut. I was so upset, we had really big storms and the power was off 2 days

it meant that the ducks died....... i checked though and they were fully developed. This time i just have 3 duck eggs in due to hatch in 9 days. Then i am going to go full force and put 19 in. its making me a nervous wreck though.
looking forward to the news of yours. x

Sorry to hear about your duck eggs. That would have upset me, too. It stinks that we're in the clutches of the power company and mother nature at times, eh?
No news on the chicks just yet...still at work. The boss just gave me the "ok" to head home. Perhaps he thinks I'm useless at work today anyway? I'll finish my work-day, however...who knows how long before they actually hatch and because I set up my incubator incorrectly (staggered the addition of eggs), I'll have more hatching later in the week...

Bite the bullet and fill that incubator! That's my plan once this round hatches out!

Congrats!!! I know the excitement has to be overwhelming! Hope all continues to go well!
