This is just a vent.

i have 3 guineas, Luke (the one male), Pipkin the Screaming Moron and Pretty Penny who were raised with and live with my 5 BO hens. So far they share a coop with an attached run without much problem. i try to let them free range whenever i can be outside to keep an eye on them because we have a very, very interested neighborhood hawk.

However. i am facing the fact that i think maybe i am not cut out for guineas, because the constant screaming is making me crazy. Granted i am sick, stressed and PMSing right now, and with one of my guineas being a cripple (dog attack) she gets left behind a lot and therefore cries more... but... Oh. My. Gods. i don't know if i can do this. i love them, but i am not sure i can live with them.

LMAO... (LMAO even harder at PMSing!!! I feel your pain, believe me, lol.)

I think I just found my long lost twin, separated at birth. You sound just like me, lolol

I will spare you the details of my long, traumatic, ongoing story of guineas, but I did want to mention this...

When I isolated our four guineas from our chickens and put them in a completely different area of the property, the noise was DRASTICALLY reduced. I'd say the squawking and screeching is about 20% of what it used to be. Most of the time they just make very pleasant whistling and chirping sounds now. I don't know if it's because they're away from the chickens or because they no longer have free run of the place, but whatever the reason, I'm really grateful for this unexpected benefit.

Oh shoot, I am rolling around laughing.................... but the noise can be absolutely infuriating at times! My guineas definitely got more quiet as they got to around 1 year old - they used to sit on the rail of the deck at the front of the house and scream at me if they saw me in the kitchen, then they discovered the glass door into our bedroom on the side deck..............."ok, lets scream at her in there"..................it was like a remake of Alfred Hitchcock's 'The Birds'.............. and I also had only 3!

I love my guineas, hence why I have just got 4 more..............stick with it, PMSing or not, they are such characters. And heck I yell at them when they are screaming, its a great way of venting my frustrations with the world................LOL. I love my chickens, but the GF really do make me laugh for some weird unknown reason.

And PS, I don't do PMSing anymore, just wait for the joys of Pause from Men:)

I think with guineas you have to kinda like the noise that they make ( which i do

) to really like them...granted i can see why people think its annoying but its just like a rooster crowing...you cant stop it

That's really odd... I haven't heard my guineas do the screaming in several weeks now. Maybe they're having too much fun with the weather. Usually if a sparrow flies overhead they scream and run for cover (but they weren't phased the other day when 3 bald eagles flew about 20 feet over their heads. Go figure).
