I have a problem ..... I bought 10 THREE WEEK OLD chicks a week and a half ago, 3 green eggers, 3 blue eggers, 2 Barred Rocks, and 2 Black Sex Links.

My buddy wanted 4, so I am going to give him the BRs, and the SLs. I am going to keep the green, and blue eggers. I think the blues were Prarie Bluebells, or something, but I can't recall what the greens are ? But that's not important right now, and is a question for later.

5 of the chicks are obviously not black. 2 are barred, so I assume those are the BRs, but I can't tell the difference between the other 3 black chicks. They are in a small coop and run inside the main coop, and I can never see them all at once to try to distinguish differences.

I can only post pics when the stars align correctly, so no photos.

My friend is coming to pick up his chicks tomorrow, so can anyone tell me what color legs, and beaks Black Sex Link chicks have, and are the barred chicks really the Barred Rocks ??? Any other identifying features would be helpful as well.

Thanks

BR have orange legs. SL cockerels usually have orange legs, and the pullets have dark legs. Since BL are autosexed, the cockerels are barred

Pick them out tonight after they have gone to roost. Use a flashlight dont turn lights on or they will scatter. If they are still in a broader, turn lights off first. Most chickens dont move in darkness.
The one odd black chick is likely a green or blue egger. I think either of those can be any color.
Were all of these chucks female?
Pay attention to legs. Your black sex links will have similar leg coloring. Hopefully the other one will be different.
Good luck!
If by chance you end up keeping a wrong one, you will not be unhappy. These are all friendly good laying birds.

Check combs too. Sex links will have single combs, blue or green layers most often have pea combs.

Thank you for all of your help, but I was just informed that my friends wife does NOT want any chickens !!!

I have 6 laying hens already, and only wanted12, so with these 10 chicks, I now have 16 !!!

Oh well, I'll add on to the runs I guess. It should all work out, as I have 96 square feet in the coop, and 160 square feet in 2 attached runs.

Chicken math at it's finest ! I still have room for 2 more ......
