Chickens on the Fly
Chirping
Hi! I'm new here, and to chickens in general. I have 6 babies - 2 Buff Orpingtons - Peaches and Cream; 2 Easter Eggers - Cinnamon and Spice; 1 White (Buff?) Crested Polish - Dorothy; 1 Black (gray?) Silkie - Peepers. They are 5 weeks old and I am already smitten.
I love that these girls are becoming my pets. Right now I have 3 of them sitting on my lap vying for my attention (actually, they think I have worms for them). They are so sweet and bonded as a flock.
I am a single mom in the Sacramento area. My daughter is 18 and has Down syndrome and she is just as in love with them as I am. At first she was tentative and afraid, but she is overcoming her fear and becoming quite a good helper with them.
When I'm not watching my chickens (which I'll admit I spend way too much time doing
) I work as a special education teacher, and when I'm not doing that, I make hand fabricated sterling silver jewelry. I'm looking forward to incorporating chicken themes in my jewelry!
I've been stalking BYC for a few weeks, and I'm looking forward to tapping into the vast knowledge in this group.
