I live on my son's property in a daylight basement apt.
I'm trying my darndest to get him to allow chickens here.
So far he's not approved but I got him to approve putting in 9 raised veggie beds last spring and he's been very happy for the food. That endeavore took me 5 years.
Now I'm tempting him with FRESH eggs from our own hens.
Cross your fingers for me.
In the meantime, I'm trying to learn all I can before the big venture that will hopefully happen next spring.
I hope to learn a lot from all the experience on this site. Thank you for being here.

on the border of Maine myself!

show your son who's the boss and tell him to get you those chickens!!!! they'll grow on him! a fluffy little cochin hen might get him to change his mind!

(better yet, go to a chicken swap or show and bring a couple home and just say the followed you there!)

from Oklahoma! Play the "I'm your poor old mom" card and tell him you need fresh home-grown eggs as well as fresh garden veggies for your health...try to look sad and maybe work up a weak little cough when you tell him...

forgot to tell him that! If you are his mommy & under his roof, you deserve some joy & respect. Tell him you DESERVE them!

I would just pull the ol I gave birth to you and it was the single most excrutiatingly painful 87 hours of my life and you owe me.

Tell him as your mother you are doing your job to get him to eat healthier, you did get him to eat his veggies after all.

You could tell him that you will tell his dad on him and he will be in big trouble.

You could tell him that you want to live out your days poking around the garden and taking care of chickens and he is standing in the way of you enjoying your twilight years.

Tell him if he won't let you then you will move into a nursing home, that will teach em.

Tell him you need to sell the eggs to pay the rent.

Good luck with it, I know that you would really enjoy raising chickens, its a wonderful hobby and the chickens are great to hang out with. They are funny little things.
