Yep, I'm going to let my chickens out for a free range for a couple of hours at a time after I get home from work...starting this weekend. I'll sit in a chair with a good book and a .22 in my lap in the evenings, letting them out a couple of hours before dark. Hawks beware. Laws don't scare me none where my chickens are concerned.

They need this.

I have been doing that too but I also put up some balloons and turned over some lawn chairs so that the made little places to run for cover. I am always there with them when I do it and so far so good. I cant wait until my turkey gets nice and big.

I also found that the new water powered red Rocket I bought ds that shoots 50 feet into the air is a good deterent

It's wonderful to free range them. I did it last year and they loved it. The down side is I lost my lawn and with each day they travelled further away until they were in too many neighbors yards. That's why I stopped. I didn't want to wait until I got a complaint. But they sure love it.

I let mine free rage and now my neighbors dogs dont come around pooping in my yard! I think they know I will shoot them on site! Good luck free raging and hunting? The hawks do scare me though!!

I'm afraid to try it because they might love the freedom so much that they'll constantly be barking to get out of the run when they need to be in there.

The thing is that I have six acres and three of them are wooded. It just seems wrong to keep them in that run all day everyday. When I open the door to feed or water them, I'm always having to keep them from coming out. My girls want out of there so bad. I figure two hours a day won't tear up the yard too much...

I have 4 acres here and most of my neighbors have about the same. It didn't take my girls long to travel onto the neighbors property though. Each day they would get braver and go further. I was afraid I would start getting complaints or just start losing them to the neighbors or critters. So, finally I quit and built more run space.
