So I found 8 mallard eggs on the side of a highway and I took them and put them in the incubator. 1 was a dud, 4 just never hatched, 2 started hatching and didn't make it, and the last one I helped by opening the shell for him since he was exhausted and the others didn't make it.
Well, since then, he follows me around. I put him on my bed and try to move to the other side, and he comes running. I do the same on the floor.
I'm keeping him in the incubator since he's still less than 72 hours old but he's eating his chick starter, making a mess in the lid of water I gave him, and is an all around cutie.
When I have to put him back in his incubator, he cries and cries and tries to run out when I put him in. He makes me feel bad!
Is it normal for ducks to do this? Does that mean he has imprinted on me?
I have had ducks before, actually I have other mallard ducklings that are 10 times his size right now and nowhere near him but he is the only one that doesn't run AWAY from me, he runs towards me.
I am totally in love with this guy (Lucky is his name). Will he remain as loving as he is now, as he grows up? That's exactly what I want!
