I'm taking 3 pullets to the show tomorrow (well, it's Saturday but we're heading over tomorrow) and I'm nervous!

Are there any "rules" I should know about? I don't want to do something that's not allowed or not "proper!"

Any tips?

I'm spot-washing my darn white houdan bantam AGAIN...I cannot for the life of me keep her clean! LOL

My husband told me to not be "disappointed" if I don't win anything--gee, thanks! I know it's my first time...and I'm going not expecting to win but just wanting experience! And of course, winning would be nice, too! LOL

Hey Hey! I want to be nervous and excited about entering a bird to the show. . .

But I have chicks due, and no bird eligible to enter right now. One of my Polish I'd love to enter, but a couple of her tail feathers are tattered and her crest is trimmed in the front.

So just channel your nervous thoughts to me, and instead be excited and remember, you're lucky enough to enter.

. . . sorry if that was no help.

No, I believe you asked me twice now.

I want to, but I have chicks due. And if I went, I'd be too tempted by getting a bird - prolly another Ameraucana, as they have a meet going on.

. . . Even though I have over 2 dozen Am eggs due to arrive next week.

So really, I'm jealous - Think of that.

I will, though, come to whatever show available around October on forth. By then my Ameraucanas, Marans, and Araucanas should be old enough.

There's usually some old-ish dude at the show helping set up, feed & water, stuff like that. Look for him, tell him it's your first show and ask if he can help you. He will more than likely be thrilled, if he's like the old dude at our summer fair show.

Or there's a very frazzled lady telling everyone where to go and what to do whether they need the info or not. Look for her if you don't see the older guy.

These folks seem to be standard at shows.

Also, don't wear nice clothes. Unless your birds have already been tested, they will be tested upon arrival and you may get some blood on you. Or poop if the blood draw scares them bad enough.

It's actually fairly simple after you've done it once or twice. And kinda cool. I have never in my life seen more elderly men polish their game birds or take something other than checkers so seriously. It's amazing.

Trimmed feathers are a no-no for show birds. Bathing isn't mandatory: dirt happens around chickens.

Thanks so much! I just had to laugh at your post...that seems to be the same for dog shows, too...(the old dude or frazzled woman!) LOL

Only one of my birds isn't coming with NPIP paperwork...so I think I'll be good to go, there (I hope!) I'm bringing old clothes for tomorrow because it's set up & stuff...and I brought some nicer clothes since we're going out to eat and shopping after the set up.

It's not often we get to go to the "BIG CITY!" LOL
