Hi, i'm new at this whole raising poultry thing. Um, I have ducklings, and the store I got them at didn't tell me what breed they are. I don't know how to tell. They could be White Peckin, Mallard, or, Khaki Cambells. Next, I need to know WHY THE HECK my ducklings have some black crusty looking stuff on the edges of their mouths! I saw some on them when I first got them, it went away, then I go out there today they have it! Someone help me please! Oh and 3, how fast do ducks grow? Thank you all!
I have noooooo idea what kind of ducks I have.....
from Ohio. If you post pics in the breed section or under ducks, maybe someone can help identify. Could the stuff on their mouths be food? Are they able to get their bills in the water to wash down the food?
Welcome from California! After you've been welcomed properly, post your question on the "duck" forum. You'll get lots of help there on specific issues dealing with ducks and their breeds. Go to "Index" on the top bar, click. Scroll down to Other Poultry, then to Ducks. Good luck!
Thank you all! I do think that the black stuff on their mouths is food, because when they drink water, the water gets dirty faster.
I'll post pictures of them soon.
Their really cute. They are all yellow with light peach colored beaks. I have 2 boys and 3 girls. They are growing very fast and eat lots of food. They finnaly started toswim and they follow me around!
I have some more questions, but i'll post them under ducks, so look for them there.
