I'm new at this so don't laugh!

HI, Mine are 17 weeks and just now wanting to roost.
Also. it is interesting to me that when we expanded our coop recently..we put 2x4's for roosts in the new half.
They had 2x2's in the first coop area.
Now everyone wants to roost on the 2x4's .to night we only had 2 out of 50 on the 2x2's and that was because there was not room on the 2x4's.
I had read on BYC that they are more comfortable at night if they do not have to work hanging onto a small board.....From thier responce.I believe this is correct.
Be patients, they wil roost when they are ready.

I had to slightly adjust the heights and add 1 additional roost in my first coop. (This year).... make sure there is plenty of head room when they're jumping up to the next one...
They stayed off the highest roost til I dropped it a foot, and now they ALL roost up there..
Maybe add a roost at half the height of your lowest one right now, and see what happens.
Mine roost on the lowest during the day, when they're not milling around the coop, then gradually move up to the top.

I think a little tweeking is always necessary once you get the birds in. But, if they like the floor? so be it.
Once you're "done" you'll realize quickly, you're not even close. I think this will be an on-going project as I try to find that perfect balance for them.

see my BYC page for roost locations... (note the high one is now dropped a foot lower than in the pic there, and I added a low roost halfway up to the first "high" one.. guess I need to update my pics.)
