Hey everyone! I have helped raise chickens before but I've only had a small adopted flock of hens which are fully mine to care for for just over a year now. I just added some easter eggers, cuckoo marans, buff orps and a couple of brahma to my flock. We're handling them a lot so hopefully they'll be ok with human interaction and hopefully I'll get a few that will let my 3 year old hold and pet them. I'm pretty excited to eventually get some colorful egg baskets!
We have 4 chickens (lost some over the past winter- though my flock is elderly) and 14 chicks!
We have RIR and silver laced wyandotte plus the chick breeds I just mentioned.
I just love watching the ladies scratch around in the chicken tractor. They're so beautiful and I love their sounds. The eggs aren't a bad deal either.
I'm learning to homestead and love permaculture. I teach classes sometimes and generally love to share my passion for regenerative living. I also really love to do photography and garden design as a side hustle.
My fiance is a professional knife maker and we live in a tiny house in the woods. I have a big garden and an orchard and grow food for the community in exchange for rent. We have a 3 year old son, Gideon, who is my official bean planter and we're convinced he's a genius. And he's hilarious, well both of them are. We have a dog (who is AWESOME but not chicken friendly
) and 7 rabbits.
I've been reading threads in BYC for years and only recently I realized I could just go ahead and join! It just didn't dawn on me for some reason. Also, I Am growing my flock and am finding myself with lots of questions!
I'm excited to learn from this awesome community! I'm well on my way to being the crazy chicken lady.
