I'm new here and in SHOCK!

Wow! Such a strange thing. I don't know enough about snakes and the damage they can do.

I think we have a bull snake and have been warned to watch out for the little babies, but that's it. The didn't go into the coop that tiny.

Have you thought about a chicken cam? It might be interesting to see what's going on when you're not there. I doubt they are cheap though.

I'd love to see a pic. of the baby.

And, how sweet of you to take that whole family in.

Hang in there, meandmygirls!!!

HI Missdolittle

Thanks for the information on snakes. My husband went in the chicken coop last night with his gun and found a snake in there and said he killed it. He just called it a chicken snake. That's probably the culprit.

Interesting story................I have seven, 14 week old chicks. This morning the one we call black rooster, since his feathers are mostly black, started crowing for the first time I know of. It was a funny attempt but I praised him for his effort! And he did it again! But then after that, another one of the 14 week old chicks started crowing. I looked at that chick and said, "you don't look like a rooster. I thought you were a hen!" He barely has a comb compared to black rooster. But then again momma is a cochin and she barely has a comb too. Then I saw one of my cochin chicks the same age start hanging around this mystery rooster and thought, "okay, I guess you guys go together;)." There are 2 others that "look" like roosters. They square off for short fights and jump at each other. But I will wait for them to crow.

I'm feeling a little better this afternoon about the whole egg incident. Momma and baby are fine this morning snuggling up. It's so sweet and sad at the same time.
