I'm new here. Thank you for letting me join 🙂

Hello, I'm new to BYC.com.
I figured I'd take advantage of the pre-formed questions to introduce myself.
Thank you for letting me join.

(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
My paternal grandparents had chickens when I was a kid. I got to be around them a little.
I got my first chickens at the end of August 2021. I started out with 7 chicks from TSC, and a week later got 10 more. (I caught on to chicken math quickly. ;))

(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
I am currently up to 29 chickens. Ten of which were laid and hatched here:D .
Sadly I have lost a few along the way...
RIP... Cream (EE just under 1 year.), Pearl Ambrose (Fluer DeUckle? Just over a year),
Polly, Jethro, Molly, Mazie, Gracie, and Dot. (BYM hatched in July 2022 with Buckbeak. All died between 3 and 5 weeks.)

(3) What breeds do you have?
I have (what are supposed to be) 3 Sapphire Gem hens
(Diamond, Pearl, and Onyx)
2 Dominique hens
(Darling and Nikki)
2 Welsummer hens
(Raspberry and Vette)
2 Barred Rock hens
(Ramona and Bardra)
2 Silver Laced Wyandotte hens
(Salt "Assault" and Peppa "Pecker"
* "They tend to be bullies"
2 New Hampshire Red hens
Peepers and Squeakers
1 Easter Egger hen
Sugar
1 Buckeye hen
Redd
1 Sussex hen
Cleopatra
1 Seabright hen (bantam)
Sheba
1 Legbar? hen
Florence
5 BYM pullets ( 4 bantam)
Hatched in September
(Emerald, Jade, Anastasia, Betty, and Pippy-chick)
And.... 6 (yes I know it's too many) BYM roosters
Fabio (My first roo from my big sisters flock in Ohio)
Buckbeak (My cross beak roo I hatched in July 2022)
Jeano (Welsummer egg hatched in September)
Mr. Gray, Black Bart, and Jackson Browne (Seabright eggs, bantam size hatched in September)

4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
I love my chickens!! They are so fun to watch!!!

(5) What are some of your other hobbies? I enjoy a lot of things, gardening, crafting, fishing, sleeping, etc

(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.

I have 4 human children (3 are grown living in different states and my 13 year old son who lives with me). There are 4 cats that live inside the house because they had to be hand-raised because their mom was hit by a car five days after having them. Two cats that refuse to move back out of the garage after the -40° weather we had, and several cats that show up for a meal every once in a while.

(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community? : D
I found BYC through Facebook groups.
I have known about BYC since I first got my chickens in August 2021.
I finally joined the BYC.com community (I'm in the FB group) because I was looking for some help for my Pippy-chick and read in a couple of other FB groups that this is the BEST place to go for information about anything chicken.

Thank you again for letting me join your community 🙂
:frow Welcome from New Orleans. Thank you for deciding to join us. You sound like you will fit right in with this diverse, crazy group of very experienced and informed chicken people.
We have a young granddaughter who loves to feed and be around our chickens, so she is out there, with one of us as often as she can get us to take her. It warms my heart that she loves to gather eggs that she can then take in and watch as healthy food from the hens is made for her to eat. I hope your grandchild gets to play with the chickens and understands that we take good care of our chickens and they in turn give us yummy, healthy food. I think it is a great life lesson, especially when taught young.
