Now I know how the new chicken in the coop feels...a bit lost (I'm not very tech savvy) but hoping for a spot on the roost, or at least, not getting pecked and chased out. I was instructed to introduce myself but I'm not sure if this is the proper thingy-whatsit to do that in. If I'm in the wrong spot please let me know. I also have some questions about my biddies' health and could use some advice. I have 9 layers of varying age and breeds, and have twice recently found a weird, large egg sized fleshy thing in their bedding. It looks like one of them pooped out a tumor. Twice. Nobody seems sick and I don't know who did it. Hmmmmm. Any ideas.?

You might try to post your question on the index under "Emergencies / Diseases / Injuries and Cures"

I'm new to chickens and can't help you, but if you post in the right index you will get lots of answers really fast.

from Ohio. You will be just fine. We all had to start and learn at one time.
As far as the fleshy egg, it sounds to me like an egg with no shell. Are they getting grit?

Holey moley. Thanks for the quick reply guys. It's definetly not eggs without shells. I've seen those and remedied with crushed oyster shells and recycled crushed egg shells. This was a red fleshy/ jelly mass. It smelled like fresh flesh and I dissected the first one (I'm obviously not squeemish). It was softer than muscle flesh and didn't bleed when I cut it. It was bright red and marbled with fatty bits. Sorry if anyone is grossed out. If I find another one I think I'll freeze it until someone official can look at it.
