My name is Debbie( aka mxmediamom)new to this website, but have had chickens for a number of years. I have 43 currently with about a dozen more coming this month. I have 27 different breeds and I would like to hear from anyone interested in or breeding Houdans , bearded D'Uccle or Creve Cours.I have 2 grown sons, Daniel and Matthew. My husband, Nick, is the most tolerant human being I've ever met. As I write, he's putting together a new chicken play yard for my fliers, top hats and bantams. That's what he does on his days off, what a guy!!

I have 2 dogs and 2 cats, all of which are very good with the chickens. All my large critters have passed at old age and I figured chickens would be easier (smaller, actually) one would think cheaper, too except when we have to visit the exotic pet vet!

I have a special needs Houdan rooster in the house ( got beat up pretty badly, when some of my girls realized he has a crooked leg)and have completely fallen for the breed. He snuggles, sings to me, watches his own tv and begs at the table with the dogs. I also have a blue Cochin who only has one eye, in the house for the same reason( got beat up) . She is currently setting eggs ( her 2nd batch since March) with no luck. As a matter of fact - 5 broodies devoted to a total of22 eggs with only one hatch. That will teach me to buy eggs through the mail!!! So tomorrow, I go to the nearest hatchery to pick up 5 babies to sneak under the girls so that I can finally throw away the dead/not viable eggs.

I will be going to the Columbus Ohio show again in November, would love to talk chicken in person with someone(s) I could get to know here on this site. I only know one "chicken lady" personally and she's difficult to catch available.

To support my chicken habit, I'm a mix media artist and a pet sitter. It seems, however, that I spend more and more of my time with the chickens ( they are addictive!!!)

Rebecky1305- yes, chickens ARE addictive. I remember only a couple of years ago, I told my husband," gee, it would be nice to have 6 or8 chickens". I just picked up numbers 44, 45, 46, 47, 48, and 49! And looking forward to 5 more next month. Very dangerous to live too close to a hatchery.......
