Hello Everyone,

I am new to this forum and to raising chickens. I live in Memphis, TN and my 4 new chicks will be arriving in mid July. My husband is working toward sustainable living and he does very well with his garden and other projects. Since I have a brown thumb and can't do much in the garden and due to the fact that I am an animal lover I thought my best contribution would be pet chickens. For eggs and for the valuable composting material. I have read and researched many hours and am looking forward to come guidance as I begin this wonderful adventure.

Neighbor!

Glad you joined us.

Glad you joined us!

You will greatly enjoy your chicks when they arrive in July.
What breed(s) are you getting??

We, too, are working our way up to self-sustainability.
This is my first year planting a veggie garden.
I am loving eating what I grow and no longer having to buy everything.

We are also raising sheep since we LOVE lamb chops!

So you're starting off with 4 chicks, eh?

[sorry] didn't mean to laugh . . . but I know my chicken math.
Unfortunately, I got an "A" in chicken math!
Started out with "only" 12 . . . now I have over 50 (I think).

But it's all fun and that is all that matters.

Enjoy your baby chicks and your garden!!

Thank you all for the welcome - I look forward to learning from you all.

As for my chicks, I am getting 2 Easter Eggers, 1 Black Austrolorpe and 1 Rhode Island Red. These will be added to the 2 very spoiled dogs I already have and three tanks of fishes.

We are starting with 4 chicks, our city ordinances will only allow 6. I am sure that once we obtain our retirement home, somewhere not in the city chicken math will probably kick in for me too.

Thanks again for the welcome.

Kim
