Hi! All my answers are about my duckling. I do not have any chickens but this site has popped up in all my Google searches
(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens? Technically I don't have any chickens, she's a duck.
(2) How many chickens do you have right now? 0
(3) What breeds do you have? I have 1wild Mallard duckling
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens? Unknown
(5) What are some of your other hobbies? Reading, diy anything, arts & crafts, coloring
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share. My children are grown, I have a rambunctious 1 yr old border collie/red healer mix who is kept in the side yard while we care for this duckling and 3 cats & 1 kitten who aren't allowed any where near her.
One week ago today, I found a 2-3 week old duckling outside our backyard fence when I went out to find out which bird I was hearing because I hadn't heard it before. If I wouldn't have looked down I would have stepped on this baby who some how found its way to my yard without anyone seeing it. We asked around but no one knew of anyone having or missing any ducklings. I fell in love immediately with this orphan and want to do the very best for her and keep her safe & healthy - which is what brought me here.
I have never owned or raised ducks or chickens so I'm at a complete loss! She's a very happy little one, she loves showers and grooming herself in front of the mirror. She's a joy and has the most wonderful personality. However I don't know what to do to get her to sleep at night and she seems to eat non stop all day long. I also can not be out of her site or she cries & cries in distress which can't be good for her.
(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community?
I found you by doing a Google search on how to care for a single wild duckling, 1 week ago, a pop up blocked what I was reading so I went ahead and signed up.
