I'm brand-stinking new to chicks! I acquired a Sapphire gem, Americana, and Welsummer from Hoover Hatchery via our True Value in Yakima, Washington.
So, like i said, three. Beyonce, Jenny and Rory. Back in May.
Found this site through googling on internet. But now i'm finding references to this site in library books. Who knew, ya know?
Joined today because while i find THIS site over and over, this site is the ONLY place (on the entire internet!) i have found Sapphire gem chicken references! (Besides Hoover Hatchery itself)
Other hobbies: gardening and lazy composting, lawncare via electric lawnmower and lotsa bugs and birds...turns out chicks just really feed into my half-a** outdoor care! Oh and i'm into/ hobby is repurposing as much as possible. 95% of Feeder, waterer, coop and run are repurposed materials. (But gotta buy hardware cloth new!)
My family: 13yr old and 11yr old sons, ever tolerant/patient/indulgent husband (of 20yrs!)
Besides our three 8wk old chix, we currently only have Homer, a 15# rescue dog. And a 20gal fish tank.
We've HAD dogs, cats, a parakeet ages ago, foster dogs, and tons of foster kittens and momma cats. Oh yes, i volunteer off and on with various animal shelters.
Just so I'm clear i do NOT have land. Or even a big lawn. I live in suburbia on the outskirts of a dry, seasonal city in Washington state.
