I'm new.

Welcome. It is very smart of you to join before getting chickens. Before you get them, read here about coops and runs. You will find that most of us do not like pre-manufactured coops for many reasons and those that can build -build and those that cannot convert sheds. Also, that 1/2 inch hardware cloth is your best friend top, bottom of runs and with a hardware cloth apron. And lastly, choose chickens that are cold tolerant. I grew up in Plymouth MI and didn't leave until after college.

Welcome! There's a ton of wonderful info on just about anything you could want to know and lots of really nice people on this forum. If you want chickens for eggs then I'd recommend rhode island red. The hens are pretty easy going and friendly, not much bothers mine. And I think they're a really good looking hardy breed. Here's my ladies this past christmas eve - it was -3 deg. that morning!
