I always knew I wanted to have chickens but I wasn't expecting it to happen this soon. I wanted to wait till I had my own place but when my aunt bought a chick for her little ones she soon realized they weren't capable of chairing for it. The kids saw it as a toy not a pet and mistreated it so she had to give it away. I said I would take it and the next day I bought 2 more because I didn't want it to be lonely. I am loving being a chicken owner they are so entertaining and to be able to see them transform from chicks to grown hens is wonderful. They are about 10 weeks old now and I'm so impatient I want them to start laying already but I know they have some months to go before that happens.

I'm glad I found this website it's helped me so much and I'm looking forward to connecting with other chicken lovers like me.

Hi I'm new. I have four chickens. One is broody. Today I found a wild baby turkey chick. I put it under my broody hen for safe keeping tonight. What is the best course of action for tomorrow and moving forward?

Jesse that's great. What breeds do you have? I hope you will post photos. If you want to learn more about chickens please go to the Learning Center above, it's a great place to start. Then you can migrate to forums that catch your interest. Glad you joined the flock

Pattie pie - how is the turkey poult doing with your broody hen? Sometimes a broody will reject a chick especially if she hasn't been broody for very long. Keep an eye on her. I don't think turkeys eat chicken feed.

If you go to "OTHER Backyard poultry" forum above you will find threads regarding turkeys etc. The turkey people can give you much more information that I could. I've never had turkeys.

You would get more responses if you back out of Jesse's post and start a new thread for yourself in New Member introductions. Most responders coming here will just reply to Jesse. At any rate
Welcome to BYC.

Welcome to the both of you!!

Jesse, great that you were able to take this chick and give him a good home. Sounds like you have a lovely flock! I know how hard it is to wait for them to start laying! But it will be all worth it in the end.

Pattie-Pie, you might want to ask this question in our Turkey section for more help with the baby Turkey. The are the Turkey experts over there...
