I'm Not Colorblind, But..

Okay. I have some hens that came from blue eggs in January from a neighbor. They JUST started laying yesterday. I don't question the color of their eggs. This is a side-by-side photo. If a new chicken keeper thought the other might be blue, you wouldn't think they were crazy. It's close.

The one on the right is undeniably blue in person. Not a bold robin's egg, but definitely blue. It was so sweet to find two of them in the coop yesterday (yes, two - two of the blue layers started laying on the same day).

And your photo looks closer to the color of the egg in question. Not the two hens that just started laying true blue eggs. A neighbor gifted me eggs that she said were Ameraucana, but it was a lot of ten eggs and they weren't all blue. I did NOT correct her (she charged me NOTHING for them when egg prices at the grocery store were nuts), but I knew they weren't since Ameraucana's are pricey and they always lay blue. Alas, the two hens that came from blue eggs *look* more like them (black feet and such) and lay blue eggs.

She called all of them Ameraucana though, so I wouldn't try to say those hens are. :) I just wanted blue eggs.

Further, BO chickens lay light brown eggs. Most look pink right now. Most of the eggs from the coop look like you could paint a room in those hues and it would work. My new blue layers stand RIGHT out in the basket. It's almost obnoxious. :lau

If you want to dive further down the rabbit hole...

On the bottom is the original hen's egg. Above that is her x BO (the only roo's available for fertilization at the time) the third is her x this:

Who I still think is a BFCM x BO mix. And the top one is the true blue egg for the hatched hen from my neighbor gifted egg. X-)

My prairie Blue Bell pullet laid her first egg today.

Apparently they could get more blue as she lays more, though I doubt that; but here's a daylight photo of her egg in the middle, next to a fake green egg and a brown soe egg.

FYI: I have 4 SOE hens, none of them lay olive eggs. 🤣 Only one of my 6 original soe hens laid green eggs.

This is my first blue egg layer but her egg is slightly darker blue than my friends americana eggs.

Here are my EE eggs. They have recently started laying. Hopefully they will get bigger. There is a white egg on bottom right to compare with the one above it. It does have a slight color to it. I love the color of these eggs.
