I am fairly new to chickens. I took in a rooster and hen from someone who could not keep them, then my husband decided to add two more hens. Then our rooster got really mean and was rehomed. A few days ago we adopted three pullets. I grew up very suburban but we have lived on farmland for 12 years now. These are our first farm creatures and I am learning an awful lot about them!

Welcome to BYC! I have learned so much from my chickens. Enjoy your flock and if you have any questions this place is the best spot to get real answers.

Good luck! I raise a variety of poultry and have little to no problem with it. If you end up hatching or getting a rooster in the future, be careful. They can be annoying, aggressive, or completely sweet, but they can protect their flock, make more chicks, and even be taught to go after burglars. Also they can grow their spurs quite large. One of our roosters once impaled himself with his own spurs. You should trim them often and keep an eye on them.

Hens can get a variety of problems and diseases. Otherwise they are usually more docile and mellow than roosters and make great best friends. Hope I helped :D:hugs
