I'm on Day 19 and just wondering if anyone wants to Hatch with me. I have 21 eggs (mixed breed egg layers). I'll post some pictures as soon as they hatch and feel free to post your hatch pics too. I just had a huge humidity spike so I'm hoping it won't cause any problems with the hatch. Happy Hatching!!

THis is day 21, and my broody has been hatching out eggs since Wed night. 1 +2+3=7 so far! I'm brooding them in the house. Waiting for several more . . . .

Broodies do a really good job for me. Always on the job at a perfect 99.5 degrees!

PS. Have a few in the incubator too.

I just finished the hatch. 17 out of 21 eggs hatched. That's my best hatch rate to date. 3 chicks died during the hatching process. I have no idea why. They were almost ready to come out of the egg. They had cracked the top of the egg almost completely around and then they died. Anyone know what could have caused this? I also had 1 rotten egg. So overall it could have been almost a perfect hatch if these 3 didn't die. Oh well I'm happy with how it turned out. Will post some pics shortly.

Nice job! About the chicks that zipped but didn't finish hatching: I do help, seems like the membranes can be very elastic and the chick can't break thru the balloon- like membrane. So I finish opening the egg for them. This has worked well for me. I do help; some people think help should not be given and I understand; I hatch only a few so each one is important.JMO. No right or wrong .

Two more hatched--one under broody, one from incubator. The incubator eggs are the eggs that the other hens keep adding to the broody clutch

Broody has mites. YUCK!!! Found out by seeing them on the chicks!!!! How does one treat chicks? Sevin bath?
