I'm kind of new with this 2 months of experience with chickens and ducks. I have 4 female West coast harlican femaleducks and one male duck. They follow me aroundAnd go back into their co-op when I tell them it's time for dinner. I was given 2 male peking ducks 2 days ago. They are huge and they have their own little Coop. I let them out to get out of the small cage that I had them in to give them some air and let them move their wings. When I went to entice them with worms to come back to the house, they would have nothing to do with me. I do not have a net to catch them. Luckily my daughter was home to help me Catch them. However she does not want to help much, and it's all on me. I don't wanna leave them caged. And as a 71 year old man I can only Chase them so much. Lol. How do you catch these big birds. Do I need a motorcycle. Lol

I am also wondering When I can introduce the other ducks And they can all be together. The ducks have been looking at each other for 2 days. I'm concerned that the pekings are so huge, that they would just Beat the Other ducks up badly. Any ideas would be appreciated. Do I have to buy a net? They seem to be a $100 I am on Limited funds.

Blessings,
Stuart

No. You don't need a net. ($100? Seriously?)

It's the easiest thing in the world to train poultry to come to you on command. The training takes maybe one minute two or three times the first day and a couple times the second day, and a clicker available at a pet store for $1.

Or you can do it without the clicker. It's just that a clicker will fit nicely in your pocket. Take a jar or carton and fill it with a cup of scratch grain or corn. Go to your run and shake the container and toss a little around. I reinforce the sound of the grain rattling or the clicker with a voice command, "Come on!" Save some grain or corn for later.

Repeat this in an hour, and again a few hours later. By the end of today, your ducks and chickens will come to you when they see the container, hear it rattle and hear you command, "Come on!"

Always reinforce compliance with more grain or some other treat. Your training will last their lifetime. Beats a net. Which would still require physical exertion.

2wks quarantine then you can put them together they should be fine I have jumbo pekins and Rouens mixed together and they don't bother each other

Well your ratio of males to females will be way off. Each male should have 4-5 females, so with the ones you have, you're in a good spot. Too many males and the females can be over-mated and get hurt. If you have welsh harlequins, they are much smaller than pekins, and the male pekins might also hurt them due to their size, especially if they are trying to mate on land. I would be really careful and extremely watchful if you still go ahead and try to join the two groups, and also be willing to do whatever needs to be done to protect your females.

Peas work really well.
