I'm scared

Thank goodness they're ok.
We have a chicken BUNKER, basically, for our six newly laying girls, but every time there's a raccoon around I think I might die.
So I definitely feel for you.
What breed(s) are they?
Mine are two EEs, two Dominiques, a Speckled Sussex, and a BO.
I wish I could get a bunker going, but the 'no damaging the chicken coop' thing kinda hurts that. We're getting one going this fall. 3 Red Sex Links and 1 White Leghorn. They all came to me with clipped beaks, one had no tail, they were all scruffy and terrified. I like to think that I"m giving them a better life than they had before, but that doesn't really count if they get eaten.

Aw. Did the beaks and tail grow back at all?

*almost faints with relief* They're all ok.
I'm glad they are safe!

I have an EE, a Dominique, and a Speckled Sussex as well!

Tail is partially back and but still scruffy, I expect it'll grow back better after they molt. Beaks are basically back on two of them (the two least severe) and you barely notice now, one of them is still pretty bad but improving, and one is in the middle but definitely getting better. They are all no longer afraid of me and they look much better. We asked to rent 3 barred rocks (that's what we payed for) they brought us three 'rhode island reds' (actually RSLs, but they told us they were RIRs) and a white leghorn. Not complaining because we got a free chicken, but other than buying the rental hens off of them I'm not supporting that farm anymore.

Hmmmm, any chance you'd renting from a farm in Higganum? I have a pair of rented hens from this farm and agree they don't deserve support. Regardless, I'm glad I "tried before I buy" so I'm confident making a full commitment to my own hens. (I get them from a farm in VT next month.)

My rentals go back to the farm next week. I'll miss them but want to start fresh with healthy hens. BTW, I'm in Middletown.
