I use electrical tape on my chicks legs when there is a problem. I goes on easy, comes off easy when you want it to. Just sharing.

That's such a good idea I will have to try that next time. I hate pulling off their little feathers since their legs get so feathery.

ok so here is a quick pic of my 13 silkies hatched last Thursday....they are in their fishtank brooder for the first 2 weeks so i can watch and enjoy them in the kitchen...then they will move down to the basement to a large brooder...

I was wondering how your chick is doing with leg problems. I usually do not have a problem with their legs but the last couple of times I have had at least 1 chick with problems. I have tried the band-aid and sometimes it helps but with my last chick with leg problems it did not work. The legs seem to be twisted out and it was getting sores from hoping around. Unfortunately he did not make it after 5 days. Just wondering if you have any suggestions...

Aww, sorry Rosa, like I said I use the black electrical tape. I had one in mine, hatched this year, that also had that twisted look to it. The toes also seemed to be wrong. So, I was trying and trying to figure out how to get this leg and foot straight. I tried all sorts of things, then, I figured I would try "just" taping the toes..all of them, separate on that foot. I taped them straight, the electrical tape works great, it makes a nice stiff stint, then I taped the legs closer than they were. I only kept the tape on the legs for one day, the tape on the toes, for two. It worked! I was amazed, I really didn't think it would work. I had one last year that had done the same, and it ended up not making it. Hope that helps. Maybe I just lucked out, but I know I will be taping all of the toes next time I see this in a chick again.

Do you ship eggs my way?  I'm in Utah, so sorta neighbors.  I would love to have some wheaten ameraucanas!  Do they lay the blue blue egg?  I have a blue Ameraucana, she is pure, but her egg isn't as blue as I thought I would get.

 

Hi, no I am not shipping eggs at this time. I won't try until I can get a good hatch rate from my stock. The shades of blue vary from each hen.

Good news on Stucco. She is finally eating and drinking on her own along with being more active. I am really hoping she keeps improving.
Stucco is the smallest silkies chuck but is fiesty. She loudly objects when the others won't let her snuggle with her, get between her food, and she has pecked some toes too.
Stucco has sticking power!

I have seven chicks today. It was colder out there than I would have liked but seven out of 12 hatched in March in South Central Pa. Wow.

17 chicks all went outside yesterday to their outdoor playpen. They will do it again tomorrow when temps are in the mid 70's and sunny again.
