Here is one of my "creations"... my outhouse! Hubby brought it home from our farm with the intentions of turning it into a hunting shack. I decided it was probably gonna sit in our yard and rot... it had sat there for over a year. I confiscated it. It turned into an adorable coop for my pair of buff silkies.
It's two story though and they have difficulties getting to the top floor since they don't fly. They seem to be scared of the ladder. I put them on the top floor each night and they always meet me at the bottom each morning waiting to be let out. I may eventually place different birds in this one and move the silkies to something more suited for them.
Though I did not build this from the ground up, I made all the renovations to make it a coop, including adding the window, building a new door which is two-part and opens from the top and bottom, and rebuilding the inside to accomodate the chickens. It also has a shelf at the very top for storing supplies. It has plenty of ventilation and is set up on concrete blocks.
I've been searching for another outhouse.
I love this and it doesn't take up a lot of room. Perfect for a breeding pair of birds. Again... it's not a master-piece, but I'm proud of it.
PS... hubby did NOT help with this. Asked him to put window in for me... same response: "soon"... I did it myself.
