I'm so ashamed, but it worked!

My wife says the best way to get me to do something, is for her to start it, and say she doesnt want my help. haha

Photos coming soon. today we are being pounded by horrible thunderstorms and tornado warnings! I can't wait to show you my creation!! It's not fancy, but will work well for the Cochins.

I promised hubby I wouldn't spend a fortune on coops and have been snagging every piece of scrap lumber and tin I could find. I started out with no real plan... just knew sorta what I wanted. One end is solid glass. It is built directly in, but can be easily removed for ventilation and/or cleaning. Also the whole front panel folds down (on hinges) for easy cleaning of the coop. I can't wait to get the finishing touches on it.

I asked hubby to help me build a goat shelter and half way through and a year later it still sat in the driveway. I built myself one in two days. I asked hubby to help me build a chicken coop and its pretty close to done. Unfortunately I don't have a neighbor to con so I did it myself!! If dh doesn't get the prop up windows done this weekend I'll be finishing it myself. I no longer wait for any man to help. It won't get done! The coop turned out great.

Here is one of my "creations"... my outhouse! Hubby brought it home from our farm with the intentions of turning it into a hunting shack. I decided it was probably gonna sit in our yard and rot... it had sat there for over a year. I confiscated it. It turned into an adorable coop for my pair of buff silkies.

It's two story though and they have difficulties getting to the top floor since they don't fly. They seem to be scared of the ladder. I put them on the top floor each night and they always meet me at the bottom each morning waiting to be let out. I may eventually place different birds in this one and move the silkies to something more suited for them.

Though I did not build this from the ground up, I made all the renovations to make it a coop, including adding the window, building a new door which is two-part and opens from the top and bottom, and rebuilding the inside to accomodate the chickens. It also has a shelf at the very top for storing supplies. It has plenty of ventilation and is set up on concrete blocks.

I've been searching for another outhouse.

I love this and it doesn't take up a lot of room. Perfect for a breeding pair of birds. Again... it's not a master-piece, but I'm proud of it.

PS... hubby did NOT help with this. Asked him to put window in for me... same response: "soon"... I did it myself.

I can agree! I do it all the time to my husband!!! I am sensitive to dish soap. But if he waits too long to do them I just start to fill the sink & drop in dishes. He pushes me (nicely) out of the way & finishes.
