Ok, thoroughly confused here...while outside doing yard work I heard one of my hens start singing what I assume is a 'practice' egg song. I was super excited, bcz none of them are laying yet. So I'm searching for the culprit and am expecting to see that is my 20 week old RIR. Nope. Instead it appears to be my 16 week old cockerel. When I walked over to him, he even squatted! I actually posted a thread on him a few months ago and the consensus was overwhelmingly 'boy'. He's got boy coloring, had a red comb very early, altho doesn't appear the have male saddle feathers yet and has never crowed. What gives? Is he just confused? Lol.

One of my hens had a red comb earlier than all of the others, but she's 14 weeks old and still no crowing and classic EE hen coloring. Maybe we won't know for sure until they crow/lay.

Yes, the laced bird in the front. Sorry. I don't have any other pics but I can definitely get a close up in the morning and post it. I guess earlier when I'd posted the gender question, s/he had a pretty bright comb for only being 8 or 9 weeks old at the time, and did have just a small amount of red on the shoulders. I figured no crowing bcz I have 3 other cockerels who are older. Either way, we named him/her Marshmallow bcz my daughter thinks the colors look like a toasted marshmallow. I'll update the pic tomorrow. Thank you all so much!
