Sounds to me like you need to spend some time getting yourself prepared and ready to dump the husband. People will treat us the way we allow them to.

I am so sorry about your chicks. Do what you can to prevent it from happening again.

Sachosmom, if I were within 100 miles of you, I can guarantee, by dark tomorrow, you would have a pen that was hard as all get out to get into.

I won't criticize your husband, but I will say, that he should care enough about your happiness, to at least attempt helping you.

I feel even worse now, because I can't help.

I'm sorry for your loss and for the treatment you received from your husband.

I'm afraid there are men out there that treat their wives like this or worse. I've been there myself...not with chickens but with other stuff I created with my own hands...my now ex-husband of 13 years used to destroy stuff I created just to upset and hurt me. Basically saying I don't matter.

So I'm truly sorry for your loss.

And Yes I would leave the fencing open or tear it down , fairs fair, if your chickens are fair game then so should his precious garden. many many critters just love fresh harvested garden yummys.
