I have posted on there many times with free roos chicks for sale etc... Everytime I post I get numerous responses-Only 1 has ever panned out. Im giving away free birds and people expect me to drive 2-3 hours one way for 1 roo! or 2-4 chicks. Come on folks am I being a jerk? I have alot of free roos posted right now as well as chicks and such and I said if someone takes all of them Id be wiling to travel a distance to accomodate as it will totally free up space that is needed for all my new keepers. How far would you be willing to drive for 30-40$ worth of chickens???

I p/u 3 polish chicks for $12 on a 500 mile trip. I had to detour about 1 1/2 off my route to get them.

I did have a gentleman drive from coastal Carolina to almost Hickory, about 4+ hours one way, to buy two roos from me. I charged him $30 and gave him a couple pullets for his trouble. He was SOOOOOO excited just to get the boys, but I felt bad about him driving so far.

One other time, I did drive to GA from NC about a 4 hour one-way trip to pick up some roos. I really liked the stock they came from. I think I paid $30 for all three.

Then I did sell a gal some bantams last year. She lived down on the other side of Harrisburg, but I was still driving a truck at the time, so she met me on a route stop to pick them up. It was like a 20 min drive for her. Since I was on my route, it really wasn't any trouble for me. Although, technically, it was about 2 1/2 hours from my house.

But I agree, some CL people are just idiots. DH uses CL all the time and we have met some nice people, but the majority of them don't read the ads, expect to get something for nothing, come out and waste your time, or flat out never show.

Then, my most recent CL chicken experience, I sold a guy a bunch of excess birds. He said he and some "friends" were gonna split them. I told him everything about them, hatch dates and all. Even gave him some feeders and waterers for free(it was a LOT of chicks) only to have him repost the birds two months later saying he got them "from a BAD home". WHAT!!!!!!

Honestly, If they want them that bad, make them come get them. If not, theres probably auctions around where you can make some money on the roos instead of getting rid of them

I saw your ad and thought that was you. I don't think I'd meet too far it just wouldn't be worth it. Craigslist can be so annoying especially all the spam. I also hate when people don't respond.

well shoot wanna meet? LOL I have met 2 great people from CL-but it was a weird experience as It was not intended to be a chicken thing but turned into that. Mind you-I did drive 7 hours to get 1 hen but that was my addiction making me do it! I am always willing to drive at my most frequent stops almost an hour away to help but when they ask if I can meet them half way on a 3 hr treck for less than 10$ Im sorry, Im just like -you cannot be serious! Pick-ups have never shown! NOT once -when people contact me for fertile eggs for them I say sure but I need a deposit so I dont get hosed basically-they freak out! I give up For now....You read my add whats it missing-I thought I was being generous and very cheap?

I might have a winner-someone 30 miles from me wants a roo-Now that, I am willing to drive to help-but I always ask a small background to see what they want it for-I hope this works out cause the roo she wants is a pistol terd!!

I am pretty specific in my ads. Pick up only. Can meet at the nearest Walmart, etc...

I have sold a few batches of hatching eggs. I had a few flake out but fortunately I have enough interest that I didn't have to make quiche every day for a week so the eggs wouldn't go to waste.

Well, I delivered four guineas to someone who came from Asheville to Murphy, where I met her, but that was only about 16 miles--she came the majority of the distance to meet me and she paid me for them. It's one thing to drive to get birds, quite another to drive to deliver birds. If they want 'em, they can come get 'em.
