I'm soo disappointed

Two of the 15 eggs hatched last night. Here is a picture of the cuties.

Any name ideas. No clue of their sex at this point. They are Saxony ducks.

The thing I would question is the use of terminology. Failure to develop does not necessarily mean they were not fertile. Correct me if I'm wrong, but you can't determine fertility by candling - they only way to determine fertility would be to crack them open and look for the bulls-eye on the yolk. Yes? So wouldn't it be more correct to say that 2/3 of them did not develop rather than 2/3 of them were not fertile? (Not trying to argue with you - I really will be happy for someone to correct me if it IS possible to determine fertility by candling).

I am so glad that you had some hatch - 2 is fantastic (because 1 would be super lonely).

Shipping eggs is always an adventure - my worst 0/10 - my best 4/17 (so far - I have not and will not give up, as this is one of the few ways for me to get good bloodlines)

ETA: names -- Frick and Frack, Pippin and Pon or Ping and Pong, Yin and Yang, Donald and Daisy, Mickey and Minnie

You are so right. I was also happy to get at least two. One lonely duck is just too sad. I will be getting more eggs from another seller and hope for a better hatch. My last hatch was 90%, incredible. I always hope for 50%.

I got some eggs in the mail the other day: 3 were broken. I candled the others, and the egg-sack was distorted or completely in the wrong place. Obviously the post office had ignored the "handle with care" and "fragile" stickers and stamps all over the package. I incubated them anyway, and have 2 developing.... don't know if they'll hatch.

I got eggs from the same lady 2 weeks before, and 14 out of 15 are developing (should hatch today or tomorrow!!!)

Another time, 1 egg hatched out of 26.

I agree, if you want to order eggs, you're lucky to get 20 to 30%.

PS, my hatch rate from my own eggs is close to 90%!
