Hi everyone. I've hatched a few eggs this past summer in August and got 4 chicks total (one past recently, so 3 total). They're 15 weeks now, backyard mix breeds (rooster is a Copper Maran). I have heard one crowing in the early stages of their growth but am truly stuck on which might be the roo? Initially thought the chick with the fluffy cheeks (images 1-3) because of the larger comb compared to the others, but I don't see any pointed saddle feathers or elongated tail feathers. Maybe the 2nd hen pictured because of the curving tail feathers? (far left in 1st, 4, 5?) Any thoughts are helpful :)

Perhaps it was the one who passed who was the male? These are all females, in my opinion. The one with the beard does have a larger and colorful comb for 15 weeks, but I think it is a case of an early developing pullet. Body shape says female to me, and there is no hint of male specific feathering on her or the others.

I agree, all three look like pullets to me. The one does have a larger comb, but at 15 weeks I would expect a cockerel's comb to be bright red. Much brighter than the one in the pictures.

Thank you for the replies :) I'm hoping you both are right! Seemed too good to be true to have an entire clutch be hens (unless JedJackson was spot on in suggesting the one that died was the Roo-- I didn't think to do an autopsy to see). Cheers!
