I actually got my 6 red sex link hens last March. It was cold here so they were started in our living room in a plastic tub. Well, that sure didn't last long even though it was a large tub. We soon moved them into a dog crate that I borrowed. That worked really well! I wrapped the bottom and 5 or 6 inches up with a large trash bag so that the shavings were contained. As they grew, I added branches in the wires for them to climb on. I didn't find BYC until a little while ago, so please bear with me... but I'm going to post some of my old memories of them here along with new news. I think I may be able to keep it somewhat in order of date.
This is when they first came home. Wow, they were so little.
It was very "spur of the moment" and we weren't prepared at all. After using a light for the first 2 days, I fashioned up a little hut with a heating pad and that worked really well. Our house is very warm with wood heat so they didn't need a lot extra.

So after that we made sure there was a run for these girls to be in when we weren't around to watch over them.
