Makes sense! Again, though, you don’t necessarily need a capital-d Door. You can just block off access with cinder blocks, plywood, etc.

The real-world logistics are definitely an issue. Asking people to hop over a 12”x12” high tunnel while carrying in groceries and carrying out the trash gets old very quickly.

I’ve seen elevated chicken tunnels above human head height to avoid this, but wow, convincing chickens to use this, and to not drop poop on your grandfather’s head, could be Interesting.

Funnily enough, I've potty trained half of them! They understand if there is any fabric-like material below them they cannot poo there. I sometimes go around picking fruit off our trees with a chicken on my shoulder Once I get the other four trained, I can start taking day naps in their kennel with them
Another thing is my family is all over 5'9" with the guys being as tall as 6'5", so while a lifted tunnel would make things easier, it's going to be difficult to scale up that high and then back down in just 20 feet!

Have you looked into portable electric fencing?

Portable? in what way? I'm curious! Could you send a picture of what that might be? Sending poles into the ground requires digging out rocks here as I'm on a mountain. What way do you suppose I could use it?

I don’t use it so I’m not an expert but my neighbors use it to keep their goats in and their horse. We have bobcats, coyotes and bears. And other things that all like chicken. So you might have to do some research to find what will work best for you but here is something just from amazon. I know others here use it @Florida Bullfrog comes to mind
