I'm Worried.......Very Worried.

We just had the same happen to us, someone bought 700.00 worth of shoes off of zapa online using our card, this card still in my DHs wallet... how they got the number? How they can place an order without using his name? Why they don't need the 3 digit number off the back? I had lots of questions, they did catch it and they did call, but still I don't know how you can do that without using the same name on the card, we talked to the company and they couldn't find any orders using our name, only our card!!!

just last week I had to change all my bank online info..someone was trying to hack into my account so they shut it down...if only they new its a waste of time..I barely keep enough in to cover the bills I send out..I am a cash girl myself,if I dont have the cash for it I dont need it until I do.

I really hope you get better results then what i did...

12 years ago i made a CC purchase of a baby bassinet and had it shipped via. sears canada. I did it all over the phone.

>>FF>> 2 months I have sears canada security call me and say is this ------ and they said my name at the time...I said yes it was....they asked if I had a sears CC I said no...he says then you did not make a $2000 of a TV about 15 minutes ago?...I said no I am at home nursing my newborn son.....he says he will handle it...and get it all cleared up. A few weeks later the same gentleman calls back and says thay caught one of their employees stealing info and getting accounts under their names...so my credit was clear.

>>FF>> 5 years ago DH and I apply for a home loan and were denied cause of a sears account in collections...

I go digging through paperwork and find the letter sears canada sent me telling me I was off th hook for the bogus account ..so fine we get the loan.

LAST year when I really did apply for a sears card i was denied...so i get home and call them and they said its cause i still have an outstanding balance from 1997

Our newspaper on monday has a "MONEY" section with money advice and todays' was about bank and retailer security. Apparently there is a period between the bank and retailer where the information is being sent that it can be hacked into.
It's a long story you might find on Google.
It's very important to check your "free" credit reports once a year. Check bank and CC statements.
Change usernames and passwords often, every 6 months is good.
Call your card company if traveling over seas. My dau didn't and ran into problems on the cruise.
If you don't have spy ware software get it now. Spybot is free. It can be used with purchased software and you should use both. Make sure your spyware software is up dated regularly. I check for up dates once a week, sometimes more. Run a check on your computer to get rid of junk ad ons, regularly.
DO NOT LEAVE YOUR COMPUTER CONNECTED TO THE INTERNET AT NIGHT.
Do not do business over the phone. Never give out Soc. Sec # over the phone. Or personal information.
Don't use credit cards for purchases to individual persons on the internet.
Finally to the OP your only liable for $50 and since the cc company called you they should have issued you a new card. Get those free credit reports pronto. I wouldn't worry if you take the precautions I've mentioned.

Your joking right? They flagged your card? They didn't issue you a new card and number? Your giving your "kids" your cc number? Over a cell phone? Your joking right? right?
Read my previous post.

My brother had about $2000 taken from his bank account recently for some PayPal purchases he never made. He can't figure out how it was done because he has never answered any phishing emails and he has never given out his user name or password. Fortunately PayPal has put most of the money back in his account, but it takes time. Once my step dad's credit card was used to buy skis in Argentina. He has never been to Argentina and he doesn't ski. And another time someone wracked up a sizeable bill on a credit card of his that hadn't even been issued yet. Go figure.

Last year I got an email from Bank of America telling me that there had been suspicious charges made with my debit card and asking me to please look at my bank account online and call them about it. Sure enough, there were about six charges for Xbox Live listed there, and since I don't even own an Xbox I knew they weren't mine! So I called them up, they removed the charges, and closed the account. They transferred the funds to a new account and sent me a new card.

I still have no idea who got my account number or how-- probably through a purchase I made online that wasn't secure-- or how BoA knew to consider the charges "suspicious." But I'm very glad they did!

Now you got me thinking...

On Sunday I went to a burrito place for lunch, and the guy at the counter had me sign for a credit purchase instead of doing a debit purchase. Then he forgot to give me back my card, and I forgot to get it. He brought it to me at my table, but I felt very uneasy. I have been watching my accounts closely ever since. Still, he had my signature, my card number, my 3 digit security code. Not good.

Tomorrow I am going to cancel that card and have them issue another one. Better safe than sorry.
