Images of Interior of Coop

I LOVE it! I set it up during construction so I could gauge the sensitivity of the light sensor every evening, comparing it to the time the chickens put themselves in at night in the old coop.

It took two nights of my carrying chickens, one by one, into the coop through the people door, before they "got" the concept that they weren't going to be able to stay in the old coop any more (where I've got adolescent chicks living right now) and that their new home was the new coop. Third night, they put themselves away in the new coop.

A couple of nights later, one hen didn't make it inside in time, and I went crazy looking for her. She slept under the new coop, out of my reach, all night. But she hasn't let that happen again! She was always the laggart in the past, too, but I think she's learned not to do that any more.

And, last night, the ducks decided they wanted to go sleep in the new coop with the chickens.

I don't have to rush outdoors in my nightshirt in the mornings any more to let them out; I can get dressed in my work clothes (but in my "coop shoes") and take care of feed and morning treats before I leave for work - the chickens are already out and glad to see me, instead of just rushing out right away to get drinks of water, like they did when I used to have to open the pop door for them. And Carl the rooster has already gotten his "tag the girls first thing in the morning" business out of the way by then, too.

Hi Everyone here is some pics of my inside.
You can see all the storage totes. My husband hates me messing up the garage

The coop came with one long roost. I redid the roost and made a poop board and a ladder.

This one shows the small plastic box I screwed on the wall and holds work gloves and small items.

Outside with the door open, you can see my handy step stool that hangs on the door. That way it doesn't get all dirty.

Nest Boxes- Three hold food, grit and oyster shell. There is also a hanging feeder under the poo board and two waterers in the run.
This last picture is from the pop door looking in.

Teach1rusl Thanks ..I love to hang out in the coop. My 11 yr old Granddaughter thinks its the best playhouse.

Wow.. wish I could be as organized as some of you:) Here are a couple pictures of my coop...

This is from the front door, of course. It gives you an idea of the roost location. Our coop is 8x8 (formerly our children's tree/clubhouse)

The east wall...letting the birds watch the sun rise:p I love the dropping board under the roosts. Takes minutes to clean, and keeps the coop soooo much cleaner!

The south wall....

The south side of the west wall (man door in center of west wall, right side of west wall has light switch and 4-plug electrical outlet:) Works great for hanging a heat lamp when I first moved the 5 week old chicks out, also for plugging in the heated waterer)

Hanging under the droppings board. I hope this gives you some more ideas to mull over:p

You may have noticed the playyard on the right in some pictures...because it had no lid, and the electric was later installed on the opposite side, we built a temporary chicken wire mini brooder when we placed the 2nd clutch of babies outside in the coop, which you can see part of in the top photo. The play yard was just used to separate the ducks from the chickens while they were sharing a space for a while.

Well first you teach your chickens that they are NOT roosting boxes...

Don't call them that or they may want to "roost" in them

They are nesting or nest boxes; roosts are where they roost at night. Okay...now that I'm done being a smartbutt...
Mine have never wanted to sleep there (except for a broody hen I have now), because the roosts are higher than the nest boxes, and chickens ususally want the higher area. I did have a rooster for while who was getting "hen pecked" and he would hide in a nest box. I'd have to go out each night, remove him from the nest, and place him on the roost. After three days of that, I simply blocked the nest box off each night with chicken wire. I did that for a few days, and he stuck with the roosts. Some folks place empty buckets in their nest boxes each evening, or something else to block entry.
