Images of Interior of Coop

I Love seeing the insides of your coops!

Really giving me some great ideas, as I'm in the process of planning.

Anybody else? Please post some more inside pics.

Well first you teach your chickens that they are NOT roosting boxes...

Don't call them that or they may want to "roost" in them

They are nesting or nest boxes; roosts are where they roost at night.

LOL! I'm trying to re-design my coop right now with this lesson in mind, but my mistake was to give them straw-filled tomato boxes in the first place...my fault!

There are some pics of the inside of my coop on CassInMass. Just go to BYC webpages and look me up. I rounded the edges of 2x4 for the roost and just used metal hangers to secure it to the coop. The nesting boxes are built into to back of the coop and can be accessed from the outside by a lift up door. I made a gravity feeder and have a traditional water can (it's on a heated base in winter) There's a door and ladder to the pen below. Hope this helps.

Pretty simple here but just fine for my three chickens...What you don't see is the entrance to the nest box on the left which is blocked off because I'm using the coop as a brodder right now.

Mine is almost done. I haven't built the nest boxes yet. They are only 6 weeks old.
The inside is done, I still have some work to do on the outside

There are slide out trays under the roost that slide out from the out side.

Some times they just stand in the pop and look out. I'm having a hard time getting them to go outside

The sides are vented at the top

There is wire under the roost to keep them out of the poop.

I like the automatic pop door opener( If I can ever get them to go out side.)
I'll post more pictures when I finish the outside. The size of the coop is 8 x 16 by 8' tall
It is insulated also.

How is this working for you? I've been wanting to to try this wire method under the roosts, but am afraid of it being too much work.

Doesn't the poo get caught in the wire? Do you find yourself scraping poo boards and wire? What size wire did you use?

Right now, I have roosts and a poop board. My girls are all over the poop board, walking; jumping; sitting... UGH!

So far it works great. I used 1" x 2" wire and the poop trays have a 1 1/2" edge around them. I put shavings in it and about every ten days
I slide them out to empty them. The shavings hold most of the poop, so there's not much to clean off the trays.
The wire is big enough for most of the poop to fall thru, and a wire brush takes care of what sticks to the wire.
My BIG mistake was the gate of the run is smaller than the trays. ( Bad News)
