I was given a Salmon Faverolle today when I bought two marans, she said it was under sized and didn't want to use it as a breeder, had her home for about an hour when I noticed a large lump on her breast and found it was her crop hard and large. Read about impacted crop, she is a little fluffed up, put her in a box by herself, with water with CV in it and massaged her crop and put bread soaked with olive oil on it... am I doing the right thing? now that i picked her up again she is hot, not fluffed up because she is cold

I agree with tellynpeep. Wait and see how she is in the morning. If it went down overnight then it is probably normal. Also, I've read that there is an odor with an impacted crop.
Good luck and let us know how she does.

Thanks watching her and went out and checked my girls to compare hers is the size of lemon...a little suspicious in why she gave her to me? I had not even enquired. Live and learn I went ahead and took her thinking she was an uncared for runt.

New at this.

I'm new too and trying not to be too hard on myself. One of my hens died yesterday and I think I might have contributed or maybe have been able to prevent it if I had more knowledge.
You never know, she may a wonderful gift. At least you will learn.

By tomorrow you will have a better idea of what is going on. Still it is worth researching this site on the topic so you will be prepared. I seem to remember that yogurt is a good remedy. Other than that sounds like you are doing the right things.

Sorry about your hen. I love BYC because we all help each other. I would have had no idea what was going on with her, If hadn't read post yesterday on this, and realized how huge her crop looked. Love you guys.
