Good afternoon everyone!,
About 2 months ago we encountered a weasel attack leaving one of my hens Dorothy disabled. (she has a permanent bend in her neck and mobility issues) she has been living on her own and thriving. Lately I've noticed her crop is quite full and not emptying. I gave her oil and massages and it went away. now it keeps coming back every few days. This time it will not go away and its been 2 or 3 days. I don't want her getting sour crop. I give her daily massages and clean water but shes still impacted. Its very slowly getting less full but she isnt pooping and whenever I massage her, her crop gurgles and it makes the sound like when your really hungry. She even started drooling a bit today. I need suggestions, the regular treatment isn't seeming to work well enough. I'm looking for at home treatments that wont make her too uncomfortable.
*NOTE* I believe the impaction is a result of her ingesting wood shavings in her pen, as well as part of her slight disability.

Are you providing grit for her? What are you feeding? Is there any way you could place her crate inside your coop with the other birds, in case she is getting bored? You may want to cover the pine shavings for a bit, although a lot of chickens pick at shavings. Azygous has a good article about crop disorders:

No, she doesn't have grit. The coop is too small for her but I was thinking about that or getting her a friend that won't attack her. Thanks for the article
