So a few weeks ago we got six pullets and I know that they can’t eat precut grass that is too lo ng. My dad emptied grass clippings from his mower into the run yesterday and now one of them seems off and has been sitting and Sleeping the whole day. She’s also Ben opening her beak wide and sticking her neck out for a second as if she’s trying to swallow air. I removed the clippings and gave her some grit but not sure what do do nexg.

Feed her a bit of coconut oil several times a day and massage the crop (gently!). If it does not empty within a couple days you will need to take more drastic action.

Ok so i felt her crop and there seemed to be nothing in it so obstructed crop is off the list. It seemed she wasnt eating either which is why it is so empty. however, it seems a strange coincidence for her to feel sick just after the lawn clippings were dumped in the pen so is it possible that she ate something poisonous or her body is reacting to all this new grass? or is it stuck in her intestine? the others seem fine except theyve been doing the weird stick neck out open beak thing as well.

also, this is their first time eating a large amount of grass. theyve had some treats like cheese, oatmeal, and corn, but small amounts at a time. she ate a lot of grass today and her body isnt used to it so thats why im wondering if shes having intestinal problems. none of the grass was SUPER long, so i dont think its tangled

She's laying down again today, but isn't hunched up like a typical sick chicken. I went into the coop, which prompted her to get up and walk around. she pooped, and it was full of mucus and was yellowish. I don't know if that tells something about what's happening inside her.
