I believe one of my hens has an impacted crop

. I have tried everything from oil to massaging and her crop just is not emptying. She is 5 years old and she laid her last egg 2 days ago. She has been wormed a few days ago. Please give any advice!

Thanks in advance!

Edited: Sorry the pictures are blurry!!!! Also she has been like this, wobbly on her feet and large hard crop for 3 days now.

Get a vet to cut it open and take out the ....stuff. Have them stitch it up afterwards. Hopefully she'll be okay!

I have been dealing with a crop issue for the last week. I found the links under the FAQ section to be very helpful. There are also instructions for doing the crop surgery to remove the impacted material... I personally would not attempt this myself, but maybe you or someone you know might be made of stronger stuff than me! I hope she gets better.

Now when you say she has an impacted crop, is it FULL first thing in the morning? If it is, then you definitely have an issue. If it is relatively flat when she comes out of the coop, you just have a normal gal who is stuffing herself like a good greedy little chicken.

You probably already know this, but it can't hurt to double check before you go down the road of hard-core crop emptying. Good luck, and please keep us posted.

Every morning her crop is full. She does not come out of the coop during the day. Her crop is full at night. I'm just about to put some oil down her throat and try to induce vomiting. As a last resort I may have to do surgury. Thanks for all of your advice and I will keep you posted!
